Once again, I have to compliment you on Geektress. It’s so nice to know I’m not alone in my geekdom. I’m also glad to know there is at least one other person on this planet who has never seen The Godfather, and for the same reason, though I’ll get to it eventually. Anyway, I really enjoyed listening to the latest podcast while snacking away at lunch, and felt the need to chime in with some comments as well.

I agree, it would be nice if more comic book movies were better written, especially the ones with female leads. I suspect the reason why some comic book movies are better than the others may have something to do with the beauty pageant factor, meaning that the audience is expected to care what the heroine has to say just because she is pretty. If the people who made these types of movies focused more on what actually came out of Halle Berry’s mouth instead of how tight they could get her pants, maybe Catwoman wouldn’t have been the Hollywood joke it eventually became. There seems to be a tendency, especially in comic book movies, to let the entirety of the film rest on how sexy the heroine can look rather than the interesting things like characterization and plot. I’m not just singling out the female superheroes either. With male superheroes, often the emphasis is placed more on how cool they can look blowing shit up rather than what is actually said. Unfortunately, I think comic books themselves are often to blame for this, as the same tendency can be seen in more superhero books I care to think about.

Be that as it may, I am one of the many comic nerds who would love to see a Wonder Woman movie as entertaining as Iron Man was, though I suspect that since Joss Whedon is no longer writing he script, it may just be a dream. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could get Gail Simone on the script on top of writing the current comic series? As it stands, if it does get made, I’m afraid it will be one long close-up gold eagle cleavage and star-spangled panties.

In any case, since we’re on the subject of eye candy on screen, I’m looking forward to Supernatural tonight, and as always, your takes on it.

Take care,
Brenda (Shisho on YABS)

I have to disagree with you on Wildcat, even in the comics he's old man ornery. Used to piss Power Girl off.

Short women in action flicks? Just do what they do to Tom Cruise, have him stand on a 4 by 4 when standing next to anyone. Or is he using the scientology mystic arts to grown taller?

I forgot why you haven't seen Godfather but I haven't seen it either. I get bored by it. I'm in Brooklyn, all my life I've watched little dopey kids to old feeble toothless men do the goomba act. Snore. And then as I was growing up, everyone's using quotes from it just made it even more pretentious.

Okay sorry about being so late getting back to you on the Terminator time travel fraggle. I've been trying to find my copy of the first movie and can't find it. But I definitely remember that Reese explained that only organic or things covered in living skin like the terminators could travel back in time. I can't remember if Skynet can't send a terminator past a certain point into the past because of potentially affecting too much history is from the Now comics, from the books, from the movies or from the Dark Horse comics. But wait, was it in the Dark Horse's Terminator Vs. Robocop that established you can only travel back a limited number of years? Like 45 years. Or was that Superman Vs Terminator? Okay, I need to get back to you later on that issue, once I find the movies, the books and the comics.
