Green Means Go, Red Means Kill

funny-celebrity-pictures-green-lantern-corps.jpg

My obsession with the Red Lanterns is no secret. (See here and here.) I love angry cats and I also love being angry. Really, I do. It’s liberating. This is why I’m pleased with the direction the Red Lantern book is going. In the second issue Atrocitus asks the all important question for the Red Lanterns: is some rage more justifiable than others?

Clutter Magazine and the Designer Toy Awards

clutter-14-welovedust-front.jpg

This year at New York Comic Con I took the opportunity to head over to the Clutter booth and see what was up with their magazine. What I found out is that it's a $10, quarterly guide to some of the best in the designer toy-making industry, packed full of interviews with all sorts of artists. Not only were there full-color photos of toys, but beautiful original artwork from creators like Lou Pimentel and Leecifer (issue #15.)

After the jump, we have an interview with Clutter's Managing Partner, Josh Kimberg, about their site, and the Designer Toy Awards.

Geektress <3s Tote Bags 'N Stuff

her_universe_booth.jpg

I'm not sure if Ashley Eckstein is your typical baseball wife, but if she is, it makes loving baseball that much easier. Her Her Universe line of clothing and accessories launched last year at San Diego Comic Con, and in just over a year it has expanded past a few Star Wars licensed t-shirts to jewelry and underwear that includes Battlestar Galactica and new SyFy channel franchises. It was awesome to be able to interview her this year at New York Comic Con and find out just what they have in the works, and experience in person how excited Ashley is to talk about Star Wars and sci-fi in general.

After the jump we have the full interview, plus a little video clip show of the Her Universe booth in the Star Wars pavilion. Enjoy!

3D House of Links!

Scare the pants right off your legs! Some of those are my all time favorite movies. Unless you are a zombie, you know Monday is Halloween. Please do not do the lazy lingerie with animal ears thing. Seriously, we will know.

Review: Dead Man's Run

dmrheader.jpg

Dead Man's Run #0 by Greg Pak, Tony Parker, and Peter Steigerwald (colors) & Josh Reed (letters) came out today from Aspen Comics. (Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd is also producing Dead Man's Run through her Valhalla production company.) I received a review copy in the mail this week and couldn't wait to read it, as Pak is quickly moving up the list of my favorite writers (my first experience with his writing being the Battlestar Galactica comics.)

Laura always suggests, and I now second this, that if you don't know what titles to read, follow the author. Lots of people followed Gail Simone and are now discovering the Batgirl title for the first time. (Though, I still recommend everyone check out Bryan Q. Miller's run on the title.) After Vision Machine, and this comic, I'm pretty sure I'm going to follow Greg Pak around, too.

...It doesn't hurt that he apparently really likes robots.

I never know whether to put my criticisms first, or the praise, so let's put it this way:

Turtle Beach: Making Modern Warfare Go To 11

tbheadnycc.jpg

Not many of us here play video games that often, and I think even our resident gamer (Rania) hasn't had much time to sit down with the xBox since having a baby. So when Turtle Beach asked us to try out their new line of headsets at New York Comic Con, we knew we'd have to find someone to help us out. Enter Theresa!

She is a graduate of the 2008 Clarion West Writers' Workshop, and is a contributing writer for Tor.com -- covering author interviews, gaming news, book reviews, and snarky True Blood episode recaps. She tried out several headsets for us, and has a thorough review after the jump:

The Venture Bros. Press Hour

(click to embiggen)

It was an interesting day on Friday at New York Comic Con. I did a lot of running around and hyperventilating. The only food I could find quickly was a flatbread "sammy" from Dunkin Donuts, I missed several interviews, and had to eat aforementioned "sammy" surreptitiously during the Venture Bros. press panel. Unlike a lot of press junkets I've been at, this one seemed to be fashioned more like a press conference, the kind I normally only have to put up with for Ohio State athletic events.

Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick aren't your typical show creators (or, maybe they are,) in that they have these sorts of publicity events at conventions mainly to talk about their hopes, their dreams, their fist-fucking obsessions. They rarely have anything from the show to promote, or actually take questions. Instead they like going off on tangents and philosophizing. This was pretty much the case at the press conference before their regularly scheduled panel, as well. Below you'll find a transcript, and several photos from the event at this year's NYCC.
