Cartoon Network will finally air new episodes of Young Justice this Friday, and, while I know opinion has been pretty divided on this series, I've missed it. From the official description (below), it seems like this episode is mostly about Red Arrow being an angry idiot. I assume that he will learn some sort of lesson, like how Superboy had to learn how not to be an angry jerk in the first half of the season. I am not opposed to this, though I do wonder why rage issues are such a prominent theme on this show. It also appears that they will be furthering one of the shows ongoing plots, since the League of Shadows has already appeared once.
Red Arrow’s battle to prevent the League of Shadows from inciting a war pits him against the world’s most dangerous assassins — and allies him with someone more dangerous still. Too bad Aqualad couldn’t convince him to ask the Team for help….
From some of the stills above and the below clip, I'm guessing the B-plot is about Superboy and Miss Martian either going undercover in a school, or just being forced to go to school so that Red Tornado doesn't have to teach their asses. (What exactly is Red Tornado's purpose? Is he just there to make sure they don't set fire to the place?)
I admit to being more interested in that than anything Red Arrow related, but the Aqualad episode turned out to be pretty good, and I wasn't overly interested in that going in either. Plus, that episode had that cute scene where Batman and Robin played basketball. I doubt anything like that will happen between Superman and Superboy, because last I checked Superman was still being a heartless dick on this show, but I do expect something adorable to happen between Miss Martian and Superboy.
Shut up, haters. M'Gann is super cute. And comic books tell me that Red Arrow is probably going to hook up with the crazy assassin lady he's trying to stop, so that could be a lot of fun. It'll also be very soap opera-y, since she's supposed to have some sort of connection to Red Arrow's replacement, Artemis. Just typing that, I am beginning to understand why I am enjoying this series more than other people.
Friday night should be a really good night for cartoons though. In addition to Young Justice, Batman: the Brave and the Bold will be returning with a Green Lantern episode that was supposed to air ages ago. Many people probably already watched it on iTunes, but I haven't and I am really looking forward to the before credits teaser with Wonder Woman. Also, the excellent Thundercats will be on, so I am going to have a busy Saturday morning watching all the good stuff my DVR recorded on Friday night.
Young Justice: "Targets" airs Friday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m. ET on Cartoon Network.
