This season of Torchwood returns to BBC1 and Starz simultaneously, as both networks were responsible for financing the ten episode fourth series. The show goes international, as some American actors are added to the cast, and the locales switch from their previously Wales-based settings to those that are set in the U.S. (Series creator Russell T Davies is still show-running.)
One thing that will stay the same is Captain Jack. But he won't be wearing exactly the same thing as before:
Davies tasked the show's costume designer, Shawna Trpcic to make a new version of Jack's iconic coat. The military inspired piece of sci-fi couture was previously made of wool, appropriate for the Wales climate where the series was first shot. The newly redesigned version is a cashmere blend that gives the attire more movement, better fit and breathability for the new episodes that were primarily shot in Los Angeles.
As for the new season, it begins with a day when nobody dies. The result is an immediate population boom. C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates in order to stop our impending doom, and is introduced to Torchwood. John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and Kai Owen return from the original series, but are joined by Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and guest stars like Lauren Ambrose and C Thomas Howell.
Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres on STARZ on Friday, July 8th at 10pm.
