It's no secret that I love superheroes. I also really love dance movies. (I imagine it has something to do with the fact that I lack both super powers and rhythm, but really wish I had both.) So imagine my utter delight when I discovered the new web series "The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers," or "LXD" as they call it (via Spinoff Online). It's like "Step Up" meets "Heroes," or maybe "Harry Potter." I'm not really sure, but it is fantastic. It's even directed by the same director as "Step Up 2 the Streets" and the upcoming "Step Up 3D." Even better, it features and is co-choreographed by Mike "the Other Asian" from "Glee," also known as Harry Shum, Jr. Do yourself a favor and go to the above link and watch the trailer. Then go to Hulu.com and watch the first episode. It's only 13 minutes, so you have no real excuse not to do as I say.
Isn't that great? I don't know what I love more, that most of it is a big dance sequence, or that they take time out of said dance sequence for the douchey guy from "Veronica Mars," basically playing the same character here, to make a complete idiot out of himself. I also love the cliffhanger ending. The villain, who I know is the villain from watching the trailer (handy, that), facing off against our hero's dad? I bet that doesn't end well. How else will Trevor Drift learn that with great dance power comes great dance responsibility?
My favorite thing is just the very idea of it though, and the dancing, to my completely ignorant eye, does look pretty amazing. I can't wait until the next episode, and I will definitely be checking it out every Wednesday. I've also been having a lot of fun with the official website, particularly the character descriptions. What did you think?
