Doogie Howser Becomes Super Villain, Sings

Thank God for Whedonesque, the internet's best source of all things even remotely Whedon-y. They visit sites like Ain't It Cool News so that we don't have to, and find out that Neil Patrick Harris is working on a web short film musical thing with Joss Whedon called Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. Fortunately, it's also the sort of place where Whedon posts regularly, and can confirm such things.

In a response to the posting of the NPH interview at AICN, Whedon stated:

This much I will say: It's the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to. And I'm having the time of my life.

He also mentioned that it was co-written by his brother's Jed and Zack and Jed's fiancé Maurissa, and will star, in addition to NPH, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day as the hero, named Captain Hammer, and the cute girl, named Penny, respectively. (I think it would have been a lot funnier if it were the other way around.) There will be 3 webisodes of approximately 10 minutes each. Filming began on Sunday, March 16.

My thoughts on this are threefold:

1) OH MY GOD! So cool...

2) Does this mean Nathan Fillion can sing? I will totally renounce my Hugh Jackman love for him if he can sing.

3) Oh, for fuck's sake! Now the final issues of his Runaways and Astonishing X-Men comic book runs are never going to come out.

Anything whedon disappears into the late hours on UK televsion, so I'm obviously happy about this appearing webside.

Doogie, we've missed you since Starship troopers... 'It's afraid!'

Have you not gotten "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" and "How I Met Your Mother" in the UK? NPH is legen...wait for it...dary! (You would totally get that if you "How I Met Your Mother.")
