The scenes were shot in the Long Beach City Council Chamber (you can see a picture of the space here - it really does look like a Trek set, even without set dressing). Extremely minor spoiler after the jump.
Evidently Perry plays a member of the Starfleet top brass who sits on a tribunal overseeing Cadet Kirk's "punishment" for cheating on the Kobayshi Maru. Of course, I'm using the quote marks because Kirk actually got a commendation for original thinking instead of getting busted back to janitor.

Karl Urban's McCoy looks dead-on. He's got those eyebrows already.
Anton Yelchin is another good match, as well as Chris Pine.

I agree about Pine - I think he & Quinto will, with luck and good costuming/makeup, make an eerily perfect Kirk/Spock.
I'm also really looking forward to seeing Simon Pegg as Scotty.
